Acne

Acne, a common dermatological condition, is a skin disorder that affects millions of individuals, transcending age, gender, and ethnicity. Acne can have a significant impact on both physical appearance and psychological well-being.

Symptoms?

Acne can develop on the face, back, and chest. There are 6 main types of spots caused by acne:

Blackheads – These are the small black or brown bumps that develop on the skin.

Whiteheads – similar to blackheads, but in white colour, and it could be firmer and usually looks like white dots on the skin.

Papules – small red bumps that may feel tender or sore due to the inflammation.

Pustules – similar to papules, but have a white head in the centre.

Nodules – large hard lumps that build up beneath the skin’s surface and can be painful.

Cysts – large pus-filled lumps that look similar to boils and carry the most significant risk of causing permanent scarring

Causes Of Acne

Acne is frequently associated with hormonal fluctuations, particularly during the period of puberty, yet it can manifest at any point across the lifespan. Hormones trigger an augmented production of sebum from the sebaceous glands adjoining skin hair follicles. This atypical sebum secretion alters the behavior of an ordinarily benign cutaneous bacterium, rendering it more virulent and consequently inducing inflammation and the formation of pus. Hormonal fluctuations concurrently thicken the internal lining of hair follicles, culminating in the obstruction of pores.

In women, hormonal shifts encompassing the menstrual cycle and pregnancy can also precipitate instances of acne. Furthermore, anxiety and stress have been identified as potential exacerbating factors of acne.

Moreover, hereditary factors can play a pivotal role in the onset of acne. A familial predisposition to acne increases the likelihood of its manifestation in an individual.
